About Me
I’ve been writing as a hobby since childhood. I’ve always made up stories and loved listening to them. My mother homeschooled me, and from a young age, I was surrounded by wonderful books and poems. Some of my favourite memories are listening to her read Jane Austen aloud, and my father reading The Hobbit to me at bedtime.

I knew I wanted to be a writer as soon as I knew the profession existed—circa Little Women (1994).
It took me a while to find the courage and clarity to truly pursue this passion, though writing kept nudging its way back into my life. I studied English Literature because I wanted to read books, but I soon found myself just as drawn to the stories behind the authors themselves. I also studied Sociology to better understand the lived experiences of different people and cultures.
After graduating, I taught English in South Korea for a year. When I returned to Canada, I decided to keep teaching and completed a diploma in Applied Linguistics. That course deepened my understanding of language—how it’s constructed, and how meaning is made in words and between them.

All of these experiences had one thing in common: a love for language and writing. Even as I pursued a different career path, writing continued to show up and shape my choices.
In 2019, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (IPAH or PAH), a rare, chronic, and progressive disease that affects the function of my heart and lungs. It made me realize I don’t want to wait anymore to build the writing life I’ve always dreamed of. So, in 2021, I began writing again in earnest.

I now work as a LINC Instructor at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria, a role that has shown me just how intertwined my passions are: one for creating magic with words, and the other for opening doors through teaching.

My work has been published in Bangs Zine, Tissues PH Magazine, Roi Fainéant Press, Gastropoda Lit, South Child Lit, and is forthcoming in Poetry Pause. I’m also working on a chapbook, I Wrote These Poems in a Hospital Bed, TBA. I run a Substack newsletter called The Whole Process, which breaks down the inspiration behind, and writing of my poems and features brand new work each month.
